I was born in York, lived in various villages around York until marriage to Harold in 1963
when I moved to Rawcliffe. I worked for short times: at British Railways; as an
almost-full-time mother to Jill and Martin; and then for 25 years at the Barbican
Bookshop in York. I have 2 grandchildren, Emma (15) and Joe (12).
There is a strong creative streak in me which leads to many and varied interests and joys.
Brought up in the country, the natural world gives me much pleasure and, though I have
never been ‘sporty’, I particularly enjoy getting out on my bike for long rides and being
‘away from it all’.
From the age of 6 years I went to church with my parents but it was not until I was 18
that I realised that I could know Jesus as my personal friend and Saviour: that he loved
me and so asked him into my life. Over the years my faith in Jesus has been tested
but he has always been there for me, especially in the darkest times. Some words of
promise from the Bible which have often blessed me are:
The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)
Wow!
I worshipped and served in the churches of Clifton Parish for about 30 years before
being ordained in 2002. Curacies in Heworth, Holy Trinity & St Wulstan, then Acomb
St Stephen & St Aidan followed, before I felt led to return to Clifton Parish in
September 2009.
My passion is to see Christians and not-yet-Christians grow to become the people
God created us to be as his Holy Spirit is at work in us, to develop that relationship
with God for which he longs. Alongside my parish ministry, at present I particularly
feel called to just be there for people who know little of Jesus, to be used to show
something of his love for them.
