Liz & Chris

I was born and grew up in Grantham in Lincolnshire. I came up to York to train as a teacher at St John's College, as it was then, and gained my B.Ed from the University of Leeds. Chris and I were married in 1975 and we lived in Loughborough for nine years before moving to York in 1984. We have three daughters and the family keeps growing - we now also have two sons-in-law and a baby grandson!

I taught in Primary and Middle Schools in Leicestershire and then York. For the past sixteen years I worked at the University of York as a Continuing Professional Development Manager which involved developing and managing a CPD programme to Masters level that allowed a UK and international clientele to access courses based on university research and expertise. These ranged from Advanced Modulation and Coding for Radio Communications to Music Technology in Church to a conference with workshops for Special Needs teachers. I also had a departmental pastoral support role for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Growing up in a church-going family, it was not until I was living in Loughborough that I found a church where faith became personal and life-changing for me. Since then I've been involved in a number of different churches and wider Christian organisations and I've experienced God using the gifts and abilities He's given me to share His love and hope with others of all age groups and in different ways and situations at different times.

I was ordained in July 2006 by Archbishop Sentamu in an awe-inspiring service in York Minster. We have since moved into the parish and I am mostly based at St Mark's whilst having a wider responsibility and involvement in parish life and activities. It is a privilege to be part of what God is doing here in Clifton; as people are welcomed in and come to know Jesus in a personal, real and relevant way, as we encourage and support each other, as we grow in faith alongside each other and then find different ways to share with others around us the love, purpose and hope we enjoy as part of the Christian family here. How effective we are will depend on how committed to praying we are!
